Govt. R&D Grant Announcement – Federated Learning for Privacy-Preserving Gait Recognition
Our project titled “Federated Learning for Privacy-Preserving Gait Recognition on Edge Devices Using IMU Data” has officially received the R&D 2025–2026 (Applied Science & Engineering) research grant from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
I am thrilled to contribute as a core technical lead on this government-backed initiative that pushes the boundaries of applied AI, federated learning, and privacy-focused biometric systems. This project will enable secure, on-device gait recognition using IMU data by reducing data transfer needs and strengthening user privacy—an important step toward next-generation healthcare and assistive technologies.
The team will work toward developing:
- practical federated learning prototypes for on-device gait recognition
- robust evaluation protocols for IMU-based biometrics
- responsible AI and privacy-preserving deployment guidelines
- scalable architectures suitable for edge devices and real-world use cases
We are excited to contribute solutions that can benefit Bangladesh and beyond.
This achievement reflects the dedication of the AIM Lab team. Congratulations to the PI Akib Jayed Islam and Co-PI Sultanus Salehin, and gratitude to everyone supporting this journey.
Privacy-preserving AI isn’t just a direction—it’s a responsibility.
